March - Aquariums and Art Contests

Taddy Boy turned 2 and we celebrated at the aquarium (thanks, Grandma and Grandpa Sweeny!).  Alexa wanted to hand-make his gift and because he loves coloring (a LOT), she made him his very own coloring book.  She put paper together on her own, stapled it, and added a cover.  She often picks gifts she wants to give to others (so she can end up with them), so this was a break through and very thoughtful and sweet.  The perfect gift for her little brother who loves to draw and color.  When Liam was born I would just plop Tad next to me with a notebook and pen and he would color forever.  It would always surprise me how long it kept him entertained as a little 19-month old.  He can draw fishies, sharkies, and bubbles for a long time.

We gave him a box of fruit snacks, yay for 2 year-olds who love fruit snacks and cardboard boxes and need nothing else to be happy.  He will put himself in his crib at night doing some amazing ninja climbing moves, and is now officially our first to climb out though he rarely does it.  It's pretty impressive to watch.  At this point he ninja climbs up into his crib every night after prayers.

Alexa and I went on a date to get our hair cut, see Greatest Showman, and go to dinner (she chose McDonald’s).  It was so good to hang out just the two of us, we need to do it more often.  And I had this crazy realization that all the sudden I have a kid old enough to be interested in movies that 1) aren’t cartoons and 2) that I am interested in seeing.  How is she this old?!!  She had been begging me to see Greatest Showman for weeks and weeks.

Tad can easily throw himself up in his crib thanks to some great ninja moves, but luckily he stays in.  I am so glad we haven’t had kids who get out of bed at night.  Knock on wood.  What a blessing.

Alexa won an art contest at school about heroes.  She made a guitar out of play-do and wrote out that “you can write songs about heroes [like the military] with instruments.”  She was SOO excited to win the award and get a medal.  Unfortunately, Tad destroyed the guitar as soon as she brought it home, so I had to piece it back together again to take a photo.

Kyle and I went on a date to a pawn shop gun range and took Mr. Chubby with us.  It was hilarious because we had to wait in line at the Pawn Shop register to get our gear for the range and the people in front of us took forever because he was bailing his brother out of jail so he “had to sell off some of his crap.”  And his girlfriend kept calling and asking where he was so he kept telling her to “calm down and smoke a cigarette while she waited.”

We discovered a beautiful new trail right along Utah Lake in Vineyard.  It was nice to get out and enjoy the sunshine together.

Kyle went to buy chicken feed and they were giving away 3 baby chicks with every bag of feed, so he came home with 9 new baby chicks.  I told him he has an addiction and needs to go to a support group haha.  The sad thing is that 6 of them died within a week!  It was awful, we still don't know why.

stairs and a silly little girl....

I forgot to mention a few August updates in my last post, and have some more Alexa stories (as always)...First, Kyle (with the help of Uncle Paul and Todd--thank you!!) finished the stairs and they look awesome!!  He completely rebuilt them (ripped them down all the way to the drywall). Second, both Kyle and I were supposed to be in this work athletic competition in August, but I had to back out for obvious reasons.  Kyle still did the tennis and basketball tournaments and made me oh so proud.  He even got this funny little basketball trophy for taking third place.  The other tournaments that week included horseshoes, ping pong, foosball, golf, Wii dance, volleyball, and a triathlon. We went to Ikea for breakfast last Saturday (so delicious and cheap!) and bought Alexa a stuffed puppy while we were there.  She now takes it everywhere continuously saying "puppy, puppy, puppy!"  Speaking of the puppy, she even dragged it through toilet water last week.  Yes, you

Good news!

I'm excited to announce that we went to the doctor yesterday for another ultrasound and I now have all my privileges reinstated!! Tear is healed and baby looks good, so we are very grateful.  As promised, I took Alexa to the park to celebrate.  We went swinging and ran around looking for flowers (dandelions). She has to stop and touch every flower she finds :). She insisted that her puppy come along. Maybe because she's a lazy bum and wanted to use him as a pillow!! We didn't get any really good ultrasound pictures from the tech (I should have made special requests!), but we saw lots of baby!  This was the ultrasound (20 weeks) where they check every little thing developing - every section of the brain, spine, chambers of the heart, kidneys, diaphragm, fingers, toes, blood flow, placenta, cord, measurements of head and waist (baby is 4 days bigger than the due date), etc. etc.  It's so fascinating to see all of that already developed and so teeny tiny!!  Baby

April - May 2012

We started out April very busy at work with the Shelf Reliance annual convention up at the Salt Palace.  I stayed up there Thursday morning through Saturday night and ran around making sure things went smoothly with registration, workshops, the AV Team, slide layouts, that the owners actually stopped to eat, etc. etc.  We normally had meetings with the AV Team until 2 in the morning to prep for the next day, and were up early in the morning with the consultants.  It was lots of fun!  The executive team even dressed up as an 80’s band for the final group session and performed some Bon Jovi and Air Supply.  They were in a band together in college, so I think this was like a dream come true.  Luckily, I was fortunate enough to use my amazing musical talent to help make up some lyrics to their songs that had to do with the company.  We also had a FANTASTIC guest speaker, Kris Belcher.  She travels a lot doing motivational speaking, and was phenomenal.  I laughed so hard that I was crying
