September 2024 - New Front Yard

The kids are getting used to being back in school and we have the pictures to prove it.  Alexa wanted to crimp her hair and it transported me back to the 90's!

Nathan gashed his head open on our door and had to get it glued shut.  He also scraped his nose pretty bad so it was a rough month for this 4-year old.

Tyler also sliced open his eyelid at school and Kyle carefully glued it shut without gluing Tyler's actual eyelid to itself.  It was a tricky operation.

Both Marmie and Grandpa Swingle AND Grandma and Grandpa Sweeny came to visit and we loved it!

We finally finished moving rocks, adding topsoil, compost, mulch, digging and installing sprinkers, and laying grass in our front yard.  Oh, and we planted trees and bushes that we hope survive the winter.  We were right on the edge of when it's "too late" to lay seed but it came in really well.  Thank you, global warming, for keeping it above freezing long enough for our grass to grow ;).  Both Grandpas did a lot of shoveling and raking while they were visiting so hopefully we didn't scare them away from future visits.

Our old-lady chickens are slowing down on egg laying so we got a new batch of babies.  It's always fun to get new ones.  They are so tiny and fluffy!  Each of the kids and our renters got to pick one to bring home.  Audrey still loves to go outside and talk to the chickens.  Better yet, she loves to go in their coop and play with them.

We closed out soccer season and are grateful for a little break before basketball starts.

Misc Happenings:

Audrey can now climb out of her crib!  She definitely keeps us on our toes.

Funny Story:

Nathan was showing us the preschool craft he made.  He said, “It’s the life of a butterfly! He starts as a seed, then he’s a caterpillar, then he has a house called a racoon, and then he gets wings because he’s a butterfly.” Kyle was dying that he said racoon instead of cocoon.

stairs and a silly little girl....

I forgot to mention a few August updates in my last post, and have some more Alexa stories (as always)...First, Kyle (with the help of Uncle Paul and Todd--thank you!!) finished the stairs and they look awesome!!  He completely rebuilt them (ripped them down all the way to the drywall). Second, both Kyle and I were supposed to be in this work athletic competition in August, but I had to back out for obvious reasons.  Kyle still did the tennis and basketball tournaments and made me oh so proud.  He even got this funny little basketball trophy for taking third place.  The other tournaments that week included horseshoes, ping pong, foosball, golf, Wii dance, volleyball, and a triathlon. We went to Ikea for breakfast last Saturday (so delicious and cheap!) and bought Alexa a stuffed puppy while we were there.  She now takes it everywhere continuously saying "puppy, puppy, puppy!"  Speaking of the puppy, she even dragged it through toilet water l...

December 2024 - Christmas Fun

We were so happy to have Marmie and Grandpa fly out for the Swingle Christmas party.  Emily is the best party planner of all time and had really fun games, prizes, and yummy treats despite her whole family being sick.  Craig and Chelsea gave us a fun Christmas lantern aquarium pass for Christmas and it was amazing!  They had entire habitats full of lantern animals from all over the world.    Tyler and Alexa had their violin Christmas recital at a local care facility, which was such a great idea on their teacher's part.  Sadly, I had to join via FaceTime because I was out of town.  But they did great! We were excited to hear Ian Beagley play viola on Temple Square.  He and Alexa also put together another amazing family recital.  It gets better every year!  Ian played viola; Alexa played violin and sang; Tyler played violin; and Tad, Liam, Lincoln, and Sawyer played the piano.   One of my best friends from high school, Katie Cutr...

June 2025 - Greece

The international travel continued in June with an amazing trip to Greece to celebrate my friend Kimberly's 40th birthday.  We stayed in Santorini for a few days and then had a couple of days in Athens.  Our Airbnb in Santorini was in a cove only accessible by boat and it was an absolute dream.  We fell asleep every night with the windows open and the sound of the water just outside.  We were a group of 7 women (including Kimberly) who all knew her but didn't really know each other.  We had a great time and became lifelong friends.   In Santorini we went to an amazing spa with a private relaxation room, explored the city, saw ruins, went to museums, went shopping, hiked a volcanic island, went to the beach, and ate lots of great food.   In Athens we went to more amazing museums and explored the Acropolis.  It was significantly hotter there and the locals were much less excited about tourists.  We also went to an outdoor theater to w...
