January 2014 - dressing up and playing with Gma and Gpa

I have no idea how it's already January?!  When and how that happened is beyond me.  We had a fun visit from Grandma and Grandpa Sweeny to start off the new year.  They are getting their SLC apartment ready (aka built) in Great-Grandma Sweeny's basement and we're getting excited to have them out here in a few months.  Grandma and I took the kids to Discovery Gateway Museum in SLC while the boys worked on framing the basement.  We covered about a tenth of the museum and had lots of fun.

Beware of Alexa road rage

One of our new year's goals as a family is to teach Alexa more Spanish, so we've decided to try and speak only Spanish for 10 minutes at dinner every night.  She is catching on really fast and it's been fun.  She will usually say the prayer all by herself in Spanish, although sometimes it's Spanglish which is even funnier.  Instead of "papi" (daddy) she generally calls him "puppy" and it always makes me smile.

I took Alexa with me to Costco a couple weeks ago and she sang "I'm a Maniac!" over and over again through the whole store.  It seemed fitting.  I think it was on the radio or something, but I'm honestly not sure where it came from.

She steals my clothes to wear as "robes" as Queen Alexa.

She called herself Princess Alexa the Dragon Viking.  I like it.

Alexa has been working out with us more during Tyler's naps, and we're always telling her to be careful and watch out so she doesn't get hit by the weights.  Her response: "watch out for ME, mommy!  Don't hit me!"  We have 30 second breaks every 10-15 minutes and her recent request is to play Ring Around the Rosy during every break.  It  is pretty awesome, I'm not going to lie.  Kyle is generally dripping with sweat and playing Ring Around the Rosy with a 2-year old during every break and I love it.

We played Hide and Seek for Family Home Evening a few weeks ago and Alexa thinks it and Candyland are the best games ever invented.  She's horrible at hiding, but loves to play.  Her favorite spot is the coat closet, and she will randomly hide in there during the day and then yell at us to say that she's hiding there!

We have discovered the joy of YouTube playlists and have now created many for Alexa, including Spanish cartoons, Living Scriptures, Frozen, puppies, etc. etc.  Whenever she watches the puppies she looks at me with a sad face and says "Mommy, I just want to hug them.  I want to hug them!!"  She even cried once because she couldn't hold them, haha.

Both kids were huge fans of the Chick-fil-A play place.  We went to hang out there for an hour on a cold January day.
Tyler's current favorite toy--the toothbrush

He devours bananas in seconds.  It's really kind of impressive.

Kyle had an issue where his UVU account got hacked, so he's been trying to sort that out and it's been a lovely mess.

December 2024 - Christmas Fun

We were so happy to have Marmie and Grandpa fly out for the Swingle Christmas party.  Emily is the best party planner of all time and had really fun games, prizes, and yummy treats despite her whole family being sick.  Craig and Chelsea gave us a fun Christmas lantern aquarium pass for Christmas and it was amazing!  They had entire habitats full of lantern animals from all over the world.    Tyler and Alexa had their violin Christmas recital at a local care facility, which was such a great idea on their teacher's part.  Sadly, I had to join via FaceTime because I was out of town.  But they did great! We were excited to hear Ian Beagley play viola on Temple Square.  He and Alexa also put together another amazing family recital.  It gets better every year!  Ian played viola; Alexa played violin and sang; Tyler played violin; and Tad, Liam, Lincoln, and Sawyer played the piano.   One of my best friends from high school, Katie Cutr...

June 2024 - Cincinnati Sweeny Reunion & Outbuilding Renters

We had tons of fun at the Sweeny family reunion just outside Cincinnati.  We found some good flight deals so the kids were excited we didn't have to drive haha.  The house we stayed in had an indoor basketball court, outdoor sand volleyball court, a pool, and lots of space for games.  We had a great time.  We flew in early so we spent one night at Grandma and Grandpa Sweeny's house.  It was the first time our 3 youngest have been to their house so that was fun.  We saw lots of baby bunnies running all around their neighborhood, and I was grateful to stop at Yellowwood to see Uncle Ben's grave and Carolyn Guss's house. Nathan entertaining himself during our layover One of the days we hiked Hocking Hills and it was other-worldly.  So beautiful. Nathan was obsessed with Anne and only wanted to hike with her :) We also spent one afternoon at a local science museum It was so nice to have everyone together.  It's been 6 years since I've seen Adam & ...

August 2024 - Lagoon, Nathan the Racer, and Cubs with Viggo

We are in denial that summer is already over.  It went sooo fast! All of the kids earned tickets to Lagoon by doing their summer reading.  Alexa and Tyler read 5,000 pages; Tad read 2,000; and Liam read 1,000.  The three oldest also typed up a book report.  Alexa read Way of Kings; Tyler read How to Train Your Dragon and Percy Jackson; and Tad enjoyed Road Dahl, Hardy Boys, and Investigators. We headed back to school in 8th, 6th, 3rd, 1st, and preschool.  Audrey will be home by herself 3 days a week for a few hours while Nathan is in preschool, which will be a big adjustment for her.   Nathan wanted a Mario Kart birthday so we made a Mario cake and took him go karting.  He was better at driving than I expected haha.  He got the handle of the gas and brake pedals and steering wheel pretty fast.  He got more train tracks, magnet trains, Duplos, some Mario toys, and a Mario coloring book for his birthday.
