December 2021 - Christmas and Basketball

Tad had his first season of Jr. Jazz Basketball and 8 of his teammates were from our same neighborhood.  He was soo excited that he now has 3 medals from soccer, wrestling, and basketball.  He was also thrilled to get a poster of the "big" Jazz players and a Donavan Mitchell basketball card from his coach.  The league gave the kids colored wristbands so you and another kid on the opposing team knew who to guard because you both had the same band color.  Tad did a great job rebounding and came a long way on dribbling and shooting.

We had a wonderful Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa Sweeny visiting from Indiana.  Alexa got a cat body pillow and the Wimpy Kid book set, Tyler got hamsters and a magic kit, Tad got a dinosaur that walks and roars and breaths out smoke, as well as a Bluey book and a new scooter, Liam also got a new scooter and some magnetic fish and fishing poles, and Nathan got some toy trucks and a floor piano.  Adam and Karen gave us a really fun baby yoda game where you shoot frogs through his mouth.  Our big gift was tickets to take the kids to Disneyland in February.  Alexa found some Dungeons and Dragons Nerds candy for Kyle.  Kyle surprised me with a trip to send Anne and I to Cancun in January!  Hard to top that.

Tyler ran straight to the tree Christmas morning to find the gifts he got for other people so he could hand them out, rather than looking for gifts going to him.  He and Tad had a lot of fun picking out fabric and sewing pillowcases for Grandma and Grandpa Sweeny.  They made a bird pillowcase for Grandma and a Snoopy pillowcase for Grandpa.

We had a fun time at the Pardons decorating Christmas cookies and playing games.  Brax, Dean, and Tyler were Santa look-alikes with shaving cream beards.  We got to throw cotton balls at them to try and get their beards even bigger.

The kids were in the Church Nativity program as an angel (Alexa), someone throwing a spear at Samuel the Lamanite (Tyler), a shepherd (Tad), and a sheep (Liam).  We also got tickets to a live nativity in Lehi which was really neat.  They had llamas, alpacas, sheep, donkeys, bunnies, and lots of different scenes to re-enact life in Bethlehem when Jesus was born.

Grandma and Grandpa Sweeny spoiled us by folding lots of laundry, cleaning muddy floors, taking the kids out, and lots more work and play.  Grandma took Alexa to dinner and Forgotten Carols.  Grandpa and Tyler went to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and eat at Wendy's.  Grandma took all the kids shopping one-on-one to pick out an outfit and book, which they thought was amazing.  And she did lots of puzzles with Liam and Tad.  It was wonderful to have them here!

Grandma hosted the Ludlow Christmas party and made a fun family trivia Sudoku game.  Kyle scored in the white elephant gift exchange with a set of viking beanies.

We had fun sledding and snowboarding with cousins on Christmas Eve.   The guys stayed home and worked on the outbuilding.  They broke through the foundation and brought the water line in, as well as demo'd the stairs.

We also had fun with cousins at Kidstopia, a big indoor playground.

We got a new TV and Tyler begged us to keep the foam so he could make cool stuff out of it.  I gave him and hour to play with it ;).

While moving some storage from the outbuilding to our attic, I misstepped and broke right through the ceiling.  One leg went straight through and I caught myself / was suspended by my other ankle and two hands.  Kyle heard me crash and came running to pull me out.  It hurt so badly!  I went in for x-rays later that day because I thought I fractured my thumb and left tibia right, but the x-rays were clear.  Weeks later it still hurts to put on socks where I caught my leg.

Funny Stories:

On December 8 Liam asked: Is today Wednesday or Christmas?
My response: Uhhh....Wednesday

Me: Tyler, baby stole your blanket and pulled it into his crib.
Tyler: That cheeky baby!

Me: Alexa, you need to dry your hair. It's really cold outside.
Alexa: Ugh. I hate drying my hair. It's such a waste of time. I could be doing other things with my time instead. (said with the attitude of the Queen she is ;)

stairs and a silly little girl....

I forgot to mention a few August updates in my last post, and have some more Alexa stories (as always)...First, Kyle (with the help of Uncle Paul and Todd--thank you!!) finished the stairs and they look awesome!!  He completely rebuilt them (ripped them down all the way to the drywall). Second, both Kyle and I were supposed to be in this work athletic competition in August, but I had to back out for obvious reasons.  Kyle still did the tennis and basketball tournaments and made me oh so proud.  He even got this funny little basketball trophy for taking third place.  The other tournaments that week included horseshoes, ping pong, foosball, golf, Wii dance, volleyball, and a triathlon. We went to Ikea for breakfast last Saturday (so delicious and cheap!) and bought Alexa a stuffed puppy while we were there.  She now takes it everywhere continuously saying "puppy, puppy, puppy!"  Speaking of the puppy, she even dragged it through toilet water l...

Good news!

I'm excited to announce that we went to the doctor yesterday for another ultrasound and I now have all my privileges reinstated!! Tear is healed and baby looks good, so we are very grateful.  As promised, I took Alexa to the park to celebrate.  We went swinging and ran around looking for flowers (dandelions). She has to stop and touch every flower she finds :). She insisted that her puppy come along. Maybe because she's a lazy bum and wanted to use him as a pillow!! We didn't get any really good ultrasound pictures from the tech (I should have made special requests!), but we saw lots of baby!  This was the ultrasound (20 weeks) where they check every little thing developing - every section of the brain, spine, chambers of the heart, kidneys, diaphragm, fingers, toes, blood flow, placenta, cord, measurements of head and waist (baby is 4 days bigger than the due date), etc. etc.  It's so fascinating to see all of that already developed and so teeny tiny...

April - May 2012

We started out April very busy at work with the Shelf Reliance annual convention up at the Salt Palace.  I stayed up there Thursday morning through Saturday night and ran around making sure things went smoothly with registration, workshops, the AV Team, slide layouts, that the owners actually stopped to eat, etc. etc.  We normally had meetings with the AV Team until 2 in the morning to prep for the next day, and were up early in the morning with the consultants.  It was lots of fun!  The executive team even dressed up as an 80’s band for the final group session and performed some Bon Jovi and Air Supply.  They were in a band together in college, so I think this was like a dream come true.  Luckily, I was fortunate enough to use my amazing musical talent to help make up some lyrics to their songs that had to do with the company.  We also had a FANTASTIC guest speaker, Kris Belcher.  She travels a lot doing motivational speaking, and was phenomena...
