August 2024 - Lagoon, Nathan the Racer, and Cubs with Viggo

We are in denial that summer is already over.  It went sooo fast!

All of the kids earned tickets to Lagoon by doing their summer reading.  Alexa and Tyler read 5,000 pages; Tad read 2,000; and Liam read 1,000.  The three oldest also typed up a book report.  Alexa read Way of Kings; Tyler read How to Train Your Dragon and Percy Jackson; and Tad enjoyed Road Dahl, Hardy Boys, and Investigators.

We headed back to school in 8th, 6th, 3rd, 1st, and preschool.  Audrey will be home by herself 3 days a week for a few hours while Nathan is in preschool, which will be a big adjustment for her.

Nathan wanted a Mario Kart birthday so we made a Mario cake and took him go karting.  He was better at driving than I expected haha.  He got the handle of the gas and brake pedals and steering wheel pretty fast.  He got more train tracks, magnet trains, Duplos, some Mario toys, and a Mario coloring book for his birthday.

We had fun with the Slagles playing at Spanish Fork Reservoir.

I had a quick work trip to Chicago / Milwaukee and went to a Cubs game with some colleagues.  After going to countless little league games this year it was amazing to watch a professional team.  I was blown away when the outfielder threw it from the back of centerfield all the way home.  The Cubs didn't score a single point but it was still a fun game.  And Viggo Mortensen was only a few seats away from me so that was neat.  I always enjoy Face Timing the kids when I'm away.  And Kyle does an amazing job holding down the fort.

Tyler was personally asked by the Stake Music Director to play a violin solo during Stake Conference! I was so proud of him for agreeing to do it in front of such a large group of people.  And he was amazing!  He practiced really hard and did such a good job.

Funny Stories:

Me: We are going to Lagoon to ride some roller coasters!
Liam: Is it in Salt Lake?
Me: No, it's in a city called Farmington.
Liam: That sounds like Marmie. Like it's a city named after her. I'm going to call it Marmington.
(As we pull into the parking lot 45 minutes later...)
Liam: Yay!! We made it to Marmington!

Liam: Mom, what's 6+6?
Me: Eat your dinner.
Liam: Wrong answer. It's 12.

stairs and a silly little girl....

I forgot to mention a few August updates in my last post, and have some more Alexa stories (as always)...First, Kyle (with the help of Uncle Paul and Todd--thank you!!) finished the stairs and they look awesome!!  He completely rebuilt them (ripped them down all the way to the drywall). Second, both Kyle and I were supposed to be in this work athletic competition in August, but I had to back out for obvious reasons.  Kyle still did the tennis and basketball tournaments and made me oh so proud.  He even got this funny little basketball trophy for taking third place.  The other tournaments that week included horseshoes, ping pong, foosball, golf, Wii dance, volleyball, and a triathlon. We went to Ikea for breakfast last Saturday (so delicious and cheap!) and bought Alexa a stuffed puppy while we were there.  She now takes it everywhere continuously saying "puppy, puppy, puppy!"  Speaking of the puppy, she even dragged it through toilet water l...

Good news!

I'm excited to announce that we went to the doctor yesterday for another ultrasound and I now have all my privileges reinstated!! Tear is healed and baby looks good, so we are very grateful.  As promised, I took Alexa to the park to celebrate.  We went swinging and ran around looking for flowers (dandelions). She has to stop and touch every flower she finds :). She insisted that her puppy come along. Maybe because she's a lazy bum and wanted to use him as a pillow!! We didn't get any really good ultrasound pictures from the tech (I should have made special requests!), but we saw lots of baby!  This was the ultrasound (20 weeks) where they check every little thing developing - every section of the brain, spine, chambers of the heart, kidneys, diaphragm, fingers, toes, blood flow, placenta, cord, measurements of head and waist (baby is 4 days bigger than the due date), etc. etc.  It's so fascinating to see all of that already developed and so teeny tiny...

April - May 2012

We started out April very busy at work with the Shelf Reliance annual convention up at the Salt Palace.  I stayed up there Thursday morning through Saturday night and ran around making sure things went smoothly with registration, workshops, the AV Team, slide layouts, that the owners actually stopped to eat, etc. etc.  We normally had meetings with the AV Team until 2 in the morning to prep for the next day, and were up early in the morning with the consultants.  It was lots of fun!  The executive team even dressed up as an 80’s band for the final group session and performed some Bon Jovi and Air Supply.  They were in a band together in college, so I think this was like a dream come true.  Luckily, I was fortunate enough to use my amazing musical talent to help make up some lyrics to their songs that had to do with the company.  We also had a FANTASTIC guest speaker, Kris Belcher.  She travels a lot doing motivational speaking, and was phenomena...
